My Little Gouache Book

I have a 6" x 6" brown book that I have been filling up with gouache paintings. It is a fun little thing to do, and I love the way the paintings look on the brown paper. Here is one of them:

"Run for the Wall" was accepted at the Houston Quilt Festival!

I'm proud to have my fiber art piece, "Run for the Wall" on display at the Houston Quilt Festival this year. It is a tough show to get into and I'm honored to have had this piece accepted.

I made this as a tribute to our Veterans. It depicts three Vietnam Vets at "The Wall" memorial in Washington D.C. It is based on a photo someone took of this scene at the Wall. My friend, Mike Guerin, is the Vet standing in the middle. They are doing a rubbing of a friend's name on a dollar bill. There is a story there that I will not go in to here. Rest in Peace.

Three Pieces at PIQF!

I'm proud to have three of my art quilts on display at this years Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, California. My work is part of a special exhibit submitted by Beyond the Edge Artists. The exhibit title is "Between Heaven and Earth". It is a tribute exhibit to Linda Friedman, a member of our group who passed in 2019.  My three pieces that will be in the special exhibit are "Winter Swan", "All is Wright with the World" (both previously shown on this blog) and the art quilt shown below that I call "Ibises at the Gate".

The show is October 14 - 17, 2021. Here is a link to the show for my information: PIQF

Banner

I made a banner for the Flying Geese Quilters Guild recently.  The banner is displayed at meetings and other Guild events.

It measures about 25” X25”. I collaged and painted the geese in the center. The flying geese are reverse appliquéd.

Here it is:

String Theory

I am taking a drawing class and recently completed this:

Someone in the class suggested I call it “String Theory”. I thought that was kind of clever and used it. It measures 18”x24”.

Elsinore Sunrise Painting

This oil painting is based on a photo I took on Ortega Highway early in the morning. I was near the Lookout Bar and the sun was making beautiful colors in the clouds and on the water.

Mug Rugs

My fiber art group did a mug rug exchange. These are the mug rugs I made and sent out:

They measure around 8” x 10”. I used oil paint stick around a feather template to create the design. The edge is a flat yarn that is couched with a zig zag stitch.

Modjeska House Plein Air Painting

I started this at the Helen Modjeska Historic House and Gardens in Silverado, California several months ago, before Covid. I did not like the way it looked when I left that location and it sat for a long time waiting for me to figure out what to do to fix it. I've been taking painting classes and those helped me see a way to salvage it. It was almost completely reworked in my home studio, but never the less, it is finished now.
